Tips to making your wellness journey a success

As a Pilates instructor I am often asked by clients how to keep active and keep motivated to stay fit. I often hear that life gets in the way; time is an issue, too busy or too tired to workout. Here's some tips to keep active:

  • Schedule your workout in your diary, like a meeting you can not miss.

  • Remind yourself of how much better you feel after exercise.

  • Don't give yourself the option to miss your class.

  • If you exercise in the evening don't sit down! Once you have done your work or put the kids to bed don't sit on the sofa, you will probably never get up. Go straight to start your exercise.

  • Find an activity or sport that you like and enjoy. If it doesn't feel like torture when doing it then you are more likely to want to do it again.

  • Make yourself accountable, join forces with friends or join a programme that you have to keep up with.

  • Set goals - start simple and make sure they are achievable.

  • Make physical activity a part of your daily routine, once you change a habit your mindset will change with it.

  • Reward yourself, once you get to a goal treat yourself.

  • Be kind to yourself, if you really are very busy or don't feel up to it then have a rest.

  • If you don't feel like you have the energy for an hour long class just make a start and say you'll do ten minutes. More often than not the hardest part is starting. Once you start you will feel more energised and will probably want to keep going.
